Imageworks had to work alot on the Smurf village, as you see the movie , you can see alot of details in the 3D set of village smurf. The video says the team had to go in forest and do research on the plants and trees. This video shows the break downs of the Smurfs Village from modeling the trees to textured set, adding the grass, houses, and finally the final composite. Watch the video
