Ten films have made the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' short list to compete for a visual effects Oscar nomination. All members of the visual-effects branch will view 10-minute excerpts from each of the 10 films on Jan. 19 during the so-called bake-off. Following the screenings, the members will vote to nominate five films for final Oscar consideration, the results of which will be announced with Oscar noms on Jan. 24.
