Ogilvy | Creates IPL Season 5 Cricket carnival

Ogilvy India has created a carnival themed film to announce and promote Season 5 of the Indian Premier League scheduled from 4 April to 27 May 2012. The film features Makrand Deshpande acting as the ‘Master of Ceremonies’ taking the protagonists and the viewer on a journey to experience the carnival’s various delights.

The film opens with two school boys wondering about the noise coming from the other side of a wall. One of them looks through a peep hole on the wall and sees a carnival in progress. A guy dressed as the host for an event whistles out to them and shows them a way in through a loose board on the wall. Once inside, the boys take in the atmosphere and enjoy the various rides and games suitably named after particular cricketers' characteristics playing for the IPL. The film ends with one of the boys gesturing to the host in a manner of asking "what is this?", and he replies, "Yeh IPL hai boss".

Ogilvy | Creates IPL Season 5 Cricket carnival

Abhijit Avasthi, national creative director, Ogilvy India, said, “An evening spent with the Indian Premier League is a crazy time. Every match is a series of ups and downs. Twists and turns. Screaming. Shouting. Anxious moments. Exhilarating moments. It is all this and more. So we thought . . . hmm. . . can we possibly compare the IPL to a day spent at an amusement park? Given what a rollercoaster of a ride each game is? The film evolved from there.”

Pointing out that cricket as a passion is a given in the country, Anup Chitnis, executive creative director, Ogilvy India, added, "But the IPL is a format that is refreshing in its approach and presentation of cricket. Our communication also had to do the same. We had to be fresh and unique in the way the excitement and thrill surrounding the IPL was portrayed."

Anders Forsman, director, B-Reel Films, added, “The script was a collaboration between me, the creative team at Ogilvy Bombay and the production team at Bang Bang. We threw some ideas around and landed on the story of two boys stumbling into this funfair that works as a metaphor for a night at the IPL, where every night you go on a emotional roller coaster.”

Explaining that IPL is a carnival of passion, sheer talent and skill, engaging all your senses, playing the role of a fun-filled family outing or an exciting evening plan for friends with ease, Anuraag Khandelwal, senior creative director, Ogilvy India, said, "IPL is where the world's best talent comes together and each player leaves you with a unique experience, every evening. Doing this film was immensely satisfying, given the details and the scale it demanded, which the IPL brand demands."

Satish deSa, creative director, Ogilvy India notes that the film is the truest reflection of everything that IPL stands for. "This film could only be inspired by the IPL, made by the IPL, and run by the IPL. It is huge, spectacular, entertaining, thrilling, noisy, bright and colourful. It captures the sense of wonder and awe a wide-eyed child feels standing in the middle of a carnival. For us, that's exactly what IPL does to each one of us for 57 days. Yeh IPL hai boss."

Elaborating on the production that went behind this film's shoot, Roopak Saluja, co-founder and managing director, Bang Bang Films, said, “I can't even begin to describe what an experience this has been for Bang Bang - massive sets, precision miniatures and slick visual effects, to create what is arguably the country's biggest television advertising extravaganza of the year. Teaming up with Anders Forsman and co-producing this project with B-Reel was an excellent decision that led to an exhilarating production for all involved.”

The campaign teasers began airing on February 26 while the complete film went on-air from 6 March.

VFX | Pixion delivered Path-breaking VFX for Rohit Shetty's SINGHAM

Pixion, has been associated with the director – Rohit Shetty from many years and has worked for his movies like Sunday, Golmaal Returns, All the Best, Golmaal 3 and the latest Singham. The team at Pixion has been delivering the directors imagination in the form of seamless VFX. Rohit Shetty has also designed all the action sequences of the movie and Pixion has supported him in delivering them efficiently to the audience.

The movie was shot on film in Goa, Gokarna (Karnataka) and Mumbai. Naveen Paul, VFX Supervisor, says, “Pixion delivered above 800 VFX shots for the movie with the support of around 120 artists working dedicatedly for 40 days. Apart the time being a challenge, the action sequences required a lot of effort to be delivered seamlessly. There is a shot where 5 goons jump out of a crashed jeep which is a multi plate composite and required a lot of time and efforts”.

Singham is over-the-top retro kitsch, spilling over with high-voltage stunts, slow-motion action cuts and fiery dialogues delivered in high decibels. It revolves around Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgan), the archetypal honest cop who keeps his native village, Shivgad, crime free with his special system of dispensing personalised justice. However, his idyll is broken after a chance encounter with city goon, Jayakant Shikre (Prakash Raj) who rules over Goa with his ill-gotten wealth and power. Out of a sense of vengeance, Shikre gets Singham transferred to Goa and tries to wreak havoc in his life. But he obviously underestimates the power of this diehard cop who knows how to work the system his way.

NEWS: Rajinikanth in Ra.One is not the real one

Rajinikanth in Ra.One is not the real one, MoCap, wallpaper
A piece of disappointment for Rajini fans, the minute long cameo of the real-superhero Rajinikanth aka Chitti of Robot was actually graphically created in the film Ra.One.

Highly placed sources reveal that Shah Rukh’s talented VFX team had already created the replica and imaging of Rajinikanth. But, the South legend’s flashing visit to SRK’s studio in Mumbai was put to life by performing real motion capturing technique.

Motion Capturing (MoCaP) is one of the great new frontiers in the world of movie making and is becoming a crucial tool in complex digital effects.

A source elaborated, “The VFX team of Red Chilies had already created a graphically designed flawlessly looking face of Rajini, after taking textures from Rajini’s Robot sequences. Sensors were put on the face of Rajinikanth and his facial expressions were captured through MoCAP”.

“Rajini was also made to wear Chitti’s attire and walk in and out of the sporty Benz car, his entire body movements especially the facial expressions were captured and real motion was put to his computer generated face and body,” disclosed the sources.

As per sources, in haste to meet up the deadline of release, Rajini’s voice was also recorded on the VFX machine and not in a professional dubbing studio making it sound shabby.

Visual graphic expert revealed, “The entire activity took around a couple of hours, perhaps if Rajini sir would have not made it to Mumbai we would have to use a body double to do the needful”.

Robert Zemeckis has produced three films entirely using MoCap: Polar Express, Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have also used the technology in their productions.

SRK bows down to Rajinikanth's demands in VFX and action shoots

SRK, Rajinikanth, Ra one. wallpaper, poster, cover
Looks like Shah Rukh can do anything for Rajinikanth, even if it means increasing his film's cost. According to sources, Rajinikanth suggested some changes in RA.One's action scenes and King Khan agreed to him instantly.

“During the filming at Whistling Woods, Goregaon West, Rajinikanth

wanted changes in the action and visuals. These changes will be implemented, but it will take some additional VFX, which in turn will add to Shah Rukh’s costs,” a source informed Mumbai Mirror.

SRK not only agreed to the changes, but he would also implement them exactly the way Rajini wants.

“SRK and Sinha (Anubhav) deliberated on Rajini’s changes for a few minutes. The cost to Shah Rukh and the co-producers Eros International will also increase. But Rajini is a master in special effects, his last film involving special effects Robot was a treat. And so, SRK agreed readily to Rajinikanth’s changes. He told Rajini ‘Sir, it will be done exactly as you say’," added the source.

Hope Rajinikanth's suggestions prove fruitful for RA.One.

Swami Vivekananda's life in 3D animation movie

A 3D animation film depicting the life and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda will be released worldwide in 2013 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the social reformer and founder of the Ramakrishna Mission.

"For one who knows him, it is a treat to know some unknown facts and for them who are deprived of his knowledge, a story untold as great as his, will simply be of grave injustice to the world. The film might just revolutionise the society and if a speck of it happens, we will consider our aim is achieved," said Swami Sarvabhutananda, secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture.
The 90-minute film, to be made at a budget of Rs.7 crore, will be directed by Sukankan Roy of Aura Cinematics.Roy said animation has been chosen as the medium because of its visual superiority.

We are in talks with exhibitors and distributors and planning a worldwide release of the movie. DVDs and VCDs of the movie will also be launched," said Roy, after releasing a three-minute trailer.
Sarvabhutananda said another feature film on the philosopher's life along with a documentary would also be released.
A committee for celebrating the occasion has been formed by including the likes of film director Gautam Ghosh.
"It has been entrusted with making the documentary and the feature film. His teachings and philosophies would also be translated into several Indian and foreign languages on the occasion," he said.
The Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, which has been operating several charitable projects across the country including women and child development and rural health, said it was expecting financial help from the corporates for the animation film. "We have already spent around Rs.70 lakh on the project. We hope to get financial help from the corporates," said Sarvabhutananda.
